So much has changed in the past 20 years! When I wrote Cook Like a Mother! pizza was the only food that came to the door. Now, of course, any food or meal you can think of - food you can watch being made in countless recipe videos, you can order from a food delivery app and enjoy in minutes! But there's a cost of course - money ($75 for a burger!), but the key cost is losing the ability to look into the fridge and make a tasty meal from what you see. Cook Like the Last Mother will fix that!
Three ingredients have quietly come together to create a recipe no one intended. Fewer people know how to cook, our attention is constantly pulled elsewhere, and dinner can now arrive at the front door with a few taps on a phone. Together, they've changed our relationship with food—and with each other.
We have more knowledge of and exposure to cooking and nutrition than ever before, and yet, it's not translating into the ability to cook a meal, let alone nutritiously and affordably.
What's more, a generation who has grown up on watching cooking and recipe videos without learning how to cook is about to lose the generation of cooks who could have mentored new cooks.
Cook Like the Last Mother will playfully and purposefully guide could-be cooks to become capable and confident in the kitchen.

While the book is currently in development, here's some of what will be inside Cook Like the Last Mother:
A look at the astonishing volume of social media content that competes with the simplest and most meaningful of tasks
A look at why scrolling is so difficult to control and a six-step guide to reigning it in
A focus on the Process rather than the Recipe, a unique playbook that will ensure the reader can carry the insights and skills into any cooking requirement for the rest of their lives.
And lastly, a carefully curated group of recipes whose processes and outcome answer the most important question: if you were the last mother to ever make dinner, what would you make?
